Australia
My Grandfathers brother James Ingram MACHARDIE, emigrated to Australia on the' Flying Cloud' soon after his marriage to Medline HEMPLE in 1870.The caption underneath the above image(click to see full sized image)reads 'McHardie Family-In back Mr and Mrs McHardie, third unknown. Two girls infront, Mabel and Addie McHardie'. When he arrived he joined a co-operative and together they formed the Marion Mill Company. The mine 'Marion Mills' was a Sugar Cane Mine, and they all orked hard to make it a success. It must have been a brave thing to do, as they would not have had a lot of money, and almost everything they had went into the business.

The above thumbnail(click to see fullsize image) is of the shareholders of Marion Mills. James is highlighted with a red mark, although difficult to see.

I was thrilled that I was contacted by two of James great grandchildren, Jan and Carol. they have given me all the details , and some photos of this side of the Family. You can see the ancestry in the Surnames file, and the photos in the Australia Gallery.

Recently, in 2007, I was able to meet Jan when she came over from Australia to visit her son. She visited Scotland and did some more research, enabling us to take one step backwards and finally seeming to link us with the MCHARDY BOYS. It was such a great joy to meet Jan and her husband, and to share some good time
